- Children with chronic illness often develop POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) or Dysautonomia, basically a dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system. Dr. O’Hara will discuss the research-based evidence in the assessment and treatment of children with autoimmune disorders leading to and coexisting with Dysautonomia. She will also outline the symptoms of dysregulated control of heart rate, blood pressure, digestive processes, smooth muscle contractions, body temperature, pupil responsiveness, stress response, sweat and control of blood flow throughout body in these children as well as the appropriate and successful assessment and treatment of these debilitating disorder.
